Tips to increase comfort & lower utility bills

Are your electric bills too high ?   Are you tired of overpaying the high cost of heating and cooling your
home ?   Are some rooms too warm while others are too cool  ?  Do you constantly have to change the
setting on your thermostat  ?

Here are some money saving tips to help reduce your overall heating and cooling costs:

Maintain your heating and air conditioning equipment twice a year  (Spring and Fall) with regularly
scheduled maintenance.

Change filters each month.

Replace your older equipment with properly sized, high efficiency heating and cooling equipment.

Install attic ventilators to circulate air and remove heat, make sure they ventilate the moisture out during the
winter!

Insulate and seal ductwork to reduce air leakage.

Add 5 mil or greater plastic moisture barrier in the crawl space of your home.

Insulate the attic to a minimum of R-38.

Caulk cracks around doors, windows and plumbing + weatherstrip door & window openings.

Use ceiling fans to facilitate air movement.

Set the thermostat a few degrees higher than normal in the summer months (and a few degrees lower than
normal in the winter months)  than you normally would set it.

Leave your heat and air system on "Automatic" when you are away from home for a few hours.

Add a humidifier for increased comfort during the winter heating season.

Gas bills got you crying the blues?  Look at installing a heat pump with a gas furnace for back up, these
dual fuel systems can save several hundred dollars per year in operating costs.
